In 1951, a group from the Pipers’ Club travelled to Mullingar to a meeting with the Walderstown Pipers, chaired by Cáit Bean Uí Mhuineacháin. From this initial meeting, the organisation that was to become known as Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Eireann would grow. A decision was also made to organise an annual festival of Irish Music, song and dance and invitations were issued to musicians from all over Ireland to attend the first Fleadh Cheoil.
Join us on our journey in which we will commemorate our founders from Westmeath and take us to the years that followed in the Pipers’ Club in Thomas Street!!
Special performances on the night from the families of the founding members and the renowned All Ireland champions The Pipers’ Club Céilí Band.
